Galibore Nature Camp
The Galibore Fishing and Nature Camp is tucked away literally far from the maddening crowd, deep in the deciduous forests about ten km from Sangam, on the banks of the River Cauvery. There is no habitation of any kind for miles around and the only sounds are the bird calls and the whistling of the wind. Indeed the place gets its name from a windy hillock called Galibore, situated just behind the camp. The Camp is in the middle of wilderness overlooking the River Cauvery, surrounded by hills. The Camp itself is covered with trees lining both sides of the river. This is indeed a rough country. This is ideal for those who want total privacy and no crowd.
Accommodation
Galibore Nature Camp has 12 Tented Cottages with attach bathrooms. Located sufficiently away from any habitation, Galibore offers complete peace and tranquillity.
Food & Restaurant
At the Nature camp the exclusive banquet / Restaurant area called the Ghol Ghar (circular, open-to sides marquee) specialises in serving a delectable buffet of South Indian, North Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine. We offer guests both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
Facilities/Activities
Evening barbecue by the riverside is more spirited and lively. As twilight dissolves into the night, a bonfire is lit and while you recline on a lawn chair or swing leisurely in a hammock, preparations are afoot for the barbecue - of grilled chicken, fish or vegetables. Hammocks are fixed outside each tent and hut for those who would like to laze or read a book in the open. A safe tumbling net is provided for guests to have a rollicking time. The camp is being exclusively used by the corporates as their corporate training centre. The Camp offers excellent resources for outdoor activities such as Trekking, Angling, Coracle Ride, Joy Fishing, Star Gazing & Bird Watching.
Itinerary: Day 1
1:00 pm: Check in, Settle down and freshen up 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Treat yourself to a sumptuous lunch at the Ghol Ghar 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm: Gear up for a coracle boat ride with tea/ coffee served at the Ghol Ghar 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm: Coracle boat ride in Cauvery River, perfect for birding and sighting other mammals. 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm: Campfire at the Beach with Non Veg Snacks and Pakodas 7:45 pm - 8:30 pm: Watch a wildlife movie at the Ghol Ghar 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm: while you dine in the Ghol Ghar, exchanging tales of the jungle with the other guests and our staff.
Day 2
6:30 am - 7:00 am: Tea / Coffee at Ghol Ghar 7:00 am - 8:15 am: Riverside walk/ Trekking with Bird watching 8:30 am - 10:00 am: Breakfast at Ghol Ghar 10:30 am: Checkout
Season
The best time to visit is between August and February, when the monsoons have graced the Camp and the river flows thick and swollen, and the forest is rich and green. This is the ideal time to spot birds as river terns, Fish eagles, woodpeckers, kingfishers and many others flock in large numbers. In the drier months, the receding waterline reveals wide sandbanks where you can wade in the many lagoons. The summer months of starting from March to June can be extremely warm, especially in the afternoons.
Travel Tips
Dress for comfort. Do avoid bright colours and stick to muted shades of green, black, grey and brown. The more you meld with the background, the better. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Avoid smoking – anything can start a forest fire. You’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, torch, etc. Avoid plastics. We’re really trying to cut down on plastics. Pets are strictly not allowed
