The word literally means red soil pit if the words Kempu, Mannu and Gundi are split. It is called so because of the red soil bed that is brilliant for growing certain crops, coffee plants and more.

Kemmannugundi is a beautiful hill station in Tarikere taluk of Chickmaglur district in the state of Karnataka, India. The station is ringed by the Baba Budan Giri Range with cascades, mountain streams and lush vegetation, Kemmannugundi has ornamental gardens and mountains and Valleys views.

Also referred to as the Ooty of Karnataka, it is enveloped by lush green vegetation, beautiful dreams, gorgeous gardens and green crests and troughs of valleys and mountains. It lies on the fringes of the Baba Budan Giri Range.

• Dress for comfort. Do avoid bright colours and stick to muted shades of green, black, grey and brown. The more you meld with the background, the better.
• Wear comfortable walking shoes.
• Avoid smoking – anything can start a forest fire.
• You’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, torch, etc.
• Avoid plastics. We’re really trying to cut down on plastics.
• Pets are strictly not allowed.
