It got its name owing to the fact that it served as the dwelling place for the junior writers of the East India Company. The original Writers Building of Kolkata, India did not have any architectural beauty. It was on the same site that another Writers' Building was created later on, Howrah Bridge - located over the Hoogli River in West Bengal, India, is said to be the busiest bridge of the world. Situated at an altitude of 2134m, Darjeeling, with its exquisite scenic beauty, attracts travelers of varied interest. On arrival at Darjeeling, check in to a Hotel / Resort. Freshen up and half day sightseeing, visit to Zoological Park - This zoo houses a wide collection of high-altitude birds and animals, India's only collection of Siberian tigers and some rare species such as the red panda. The Darjeeling zoo is famous for its success in the snow leopard breeding program, Darjeeling Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) & Museum - It has a mountaineering museum containing mountaineering gears and the specimens of Himalayan flora & fauna. The Everest Museum at Darjeeling HMI exhibits the history of attempts on the great peak. The museum also exhibits equipments used by Tenzing Norgay (who lived in Darjeeling) and Edmund Hillary on their way to Mt. Everest and a letter written by George Mallory, the British climber who was lost while climbing Mt. Everest and whose body was found just a few years back, Ghoom Monastery - The most famous monastery around Darjeeling, also known as Yogachoeling Gompa, enshrines an image of Maitrey Buddha (the coming Buddha), it is about 10 km from Darjeeling town. Morning after breakfast, transfer to Railway Station and hop in to the Toy Train - visit to Darjeeling is incomplete without a ride in the toy-train of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR). The miniature train of Darjeeling, given heritage status by UNESCO, covers the distance of 88 km between New Jalpaiguri station and Darjeeling. (Ride on Toy Train, will be subject to availability of the ticket). Later on after the Toy Train Ride, proceed to Tiger Hill - Standing at a height of 2590m, Tiger Hill is 11 km from Darjeeling. The place is famous for its magnificent view of Kanchenjunga, Mt. Everest and other eastern Himalayan peaks. Return back to the hotel and rest of the day free to relax or go around Darjeeling City. Morning after breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Pemayangste - is situated in Pelling, West Sikkim. It is perched at a height of 2085 mts and is the second oldest and perhaps the most important monastery in Sikkim. On arrival, check in to a hotel and freshen up. Later on visit to Pemayangste Monastery - It is one of the oldest monasteries of the State. It was originally established by Lhatsun Chempo, one of the revered Lamas to have performed the consecration ceremony of the first Chogyal (Monarch) of Sikkim. The Monastery, located on a hill top at an altitude of 6300 ft. commands a magnificent panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges, the surrounding hills and the countryside. With a spectacular view of the Khangchendzonga, the town provides the perfect base for travel through the state. Once an important transit point for traders traveling between Tibet and India, it is today a busy administrative and business centre and presents an interesting mix of cultures and communities. On arrival at Gangtok, check in to the hotel and freshen up. Lunch, later on half day sightseeing, visit to Enchey Gompa - Set amidst a forested patch, the Enchey Gompa comes alive with religious festivals and dances in the month of August and January. Needless to say, this is the best time to visit the monastery. Otherwise too, this Chinese Pagoda styled edifice, built in 1901 during the reign of Sidkeong Tulku, Namgyal Research Institute of Tibetology - is built in the typical Tibetan style of architecture; roosted on a hilltop, it is an absolute must see. Situated amongst woods of magnolia and oak, the institute promotes research on the largest collections of books and manuscripts on Mahayana Buddhism in the world, Changu Lake - Cradled by pristine alpine forests, the Changu Lake is bordered with primula, poppies and other wildflowers and grasses, and a little temple of Shiva (Destroyer of the Universe according to Hindu mythology) dots one side of the placid water body. Morning after breakfast, full day sightseeing visit to Bi Cable Ropeway - Birds eye view of Gangtok take a ride on the bi-cable Zig-back ropeway. The one kilometer ride from Deorali to Tashiling Secretariat. On clear weather the ride offers a great view of the Khangchendzonga range apart from an overview of Gangtok town and the valley below, Ganesh Tok - situated on a ridge at a distance of 7 kms from Gangtok. From this Spot one can get a view of sprawling Gangtok town, while across the hills Mt. Khang-chen-Dzonga and Mt. Siniolchu loom over the horizon, Hanuman Tok - a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, is situated at an altitude of 7200 feet at a distance of about nine kilometers uphill from Gangtok on a blissfully calm and quiet hilltop. The location is completely free from the pollution of city life. Return back to the hotel and freshen up. Later on in the evening visit to MG Marg - the main street of Gangtok town is a great place to chill out. The country’s first litter and spit free zone, no vehicular traffic is allowed into the Marg. You can sit at the Titanic Park or at the various benches stretched across the mall and take in the carnival like atmosphere, especially during the tourist season. The stupa brings out five kinds of relics and is really worth to be revered, Coronation Bridge - also known as Sevoke Coronation Bridge, is built in 1930 over the renowned Teesta River at the confluence of Rangeet River and Teesta River in West Bengal to mark the Coronation of the King George V. This bridge, located close to Sevokeswari Kali Mandir in Siliguri, is a very important bridge in the north east region of India and connects Darjeeling with Jalpaiguri.
